Initial Fee

The initial fee to start your Genealogy Research file is $325.00 CDN ($US accepted at par). This is a flat fee for 5 hours of research time, during which time I compile what information is available from the client, conduct the preliminary research to support the information the client has given me, and continue to work towards the research objective(s) the client has requested.

Payment of 50% of the initial fee of $325.00 is required before work commences on a project.

Hourly Rates

The first five hours of research are $325.00 (covered by the initial fee). The subsequent hourly rate is $75.00 CDN ($US accepted at par). The number of hours required to complete a project depends on what the client wants to know about their family, and how accessible the resources are. For instance, research on one ancestor will take less time than research on an entire branch of the family, or an entire tree.

Sometimes, in order to get the proper sources for your family tree documentation, I may have to order documents or microfilm records at an additional cost. If this is the case for your project, I will contact you and ask you if that would be acceptable to you, and if it is, I will add the cost of obtaining the record to the hourly rate. If you do not wish me to obtain the record, I will not.

Other fees that are in addition to the hourly fees can include any fees required for parking at various archival repositories, copying, etc.



Individual records can be searched by request. The fee depends on the availability of the record, and the time and cost required to locate and obtain it. The per-record lookup option applies to the following circumstances:

  1. when you know the archival location and details of a specific record you wish to obtain, and I go to that archive to retrieve a copy of the record for you
  2. when you would like my assistance in ordering a copy of a document from a specific archive, either by regular mail, online, or by fax

  • Toronto Reference Library
  • North York Central Library
  • Various other archival repositories in the Greater Toronto Area

Please note: Additional fees, if applicable, can include documents, microfilm orders, parking, copies, etc. Fees vary.

Methods of Payment

Payment can be made via PayPal, Interac E-Transfer (from Canadian banking institutions only) or by cheque (bank drafts or money orders also accepted). If submitting payment by cheque, please contact me and I will provide you with the mailing address.
